LEVELS OF EDITING

As an editor, I work with writers to focus on their story: plot development, fleshing out characters, creating a world that can be seen and experienced, and surprising the reader with an unexpected story twist.

I offer several
levels of editing, depending on your needs:

DEVELOPMENTAL

You have outlined the book, and you have a good idea of where to go with the story. Perhaps you have even written a first draft. Now, we work together to address character development, plots, and storyline, and create the perfect story. This is often a challenging experience for any writer, but it ultimately pays enormous dividends. Throughout this cycle, I am constantly aware that it is your book. My job is to help you perfect it.

SUBSTANTIVE/LINE EDITING

You have written the book, the characters are developed, the document is complete, and you have done some editing. At this stage, I may suggest moderate rewriting and reorganization. My task is to help you make the writing as clear and coherent as possible. I will often question exactly what you meant to say in a particular sentence, paragraph, or chapter. This is nitpicking, but with a purpose. Often frustrating, it is a necessary step toward perfecting your manuscript.

COPY EDITING

This is where I polish your prose, correcting misspellings, punctuation errors, and formatting issues, while ensuring proper grammar, word usage, capitalization, and formatting.

PROOFREADING

Easily handled by AI, this is the final step of preparing the manuscript, ensuring there are no spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors. Your manuscript will be polished when you send it into the world. I can do this or you can use AI.
